Kids Baby Boy
Present ideas for a baby boy?
My sister recently gave birth to a baby boy. I don’t have kids of my own and seen as I am an uncle for the first time I don’t have that much experience when it comes to buying presents for babies. I want to get something practical that is going to help my sister and brother in law but I am not sure what I could get. Any help would be appreciated.
While you may be a first time uncle, your sister is a first time parent, and that comes with a whole set of unknowns unto itself. Hopefully she has already set up the baby's room with the essentials (crib, bassinet, dresser, changing table), and I'm sure she registered for what she felt would be most needed in the first month or so; Clothes are constantly being grown out of or spit up on, bottles are always needing to be washed, and burp cloths are always handy for those unexpected messes. Did she and your brother-in-law ask for anything to entertain the baby? Newborns seem to love bouncers, maybe because they can see what mom and dad are doing when they aren't being held. Swings are also popular and can help sooth crying babies to sleep. Playpens with insertable bassinets and removable changing tables are great for travelling. My personal lifesaver was the Baby Bjorn front pack. Your sister can slip on the front pack and have your sleeping nephew against her while she does her grocery shopping. The pack also comes in an XL size to accomadate a man's build (that is the one we chose, so either parent could wear it).
Simple but helpful items could also include a diaper bag. Because of the constant abuse that bag endures, it usually needs to be replaced every year, and maybe they could use a small bag for short shopping trips and a larger backpack for longer excursions or travelling. If they chose to bottle feed, I found a Prince Lionheart item for the dishwasher that holds the bottle rings and bottoms in a top compartment, while you can line the nipples in a bottom section. It sanitizes every crevice so well, and fits great on the top dishwasher rack.
Lastly, because you sister is a first timer, I would reccommend "What to Expect the First Year". It is a book written by the same people who gave us "What to Expect When You're Expecting", and breaks down your child's development month by month, giving you advice on where your baby should or could be at that stage. It answers common questions about nursing and diaper changes, what toys to introduce and different games to play, and, best of all, has a section on common childhood illnesses, to sooth the worries of any first time parent. The section is actually colored gray, so you can find it instantly.
Hopefully one of these ideas will strike your fancy. If not, remember, no one will ever turn down a case of diapers or formula.

We often see "lists" of top baby names - Top Ten Names 2005, hippest, the coolest, most popular names decade - and so on. Readers find these lists endlessly fascinating, often using such lists to help you choose the name of their own offspring. For parents want to know what the names really are sustainable, at least in the U.S., here is the mother of all lists: Top 10 Baby Names of the 20 century (USA).
Covers the years 1900 to 1999, this "Best of the Century" based on Social Security card applications for births in the United States, determines and ranks in the top 10 names for boys names and top 10 girls throughout the 20th century. It was prepared by using the same method as that used by the administration of Social Security in establishing their names the most popular of the ten lists, the saying by adding the raw figures. However, this analysis is the study period of 99 years.
Over there are lots of surprises: Donald in the # 13 spot every time Dorothy in the No. 9 spot on the girls followed by Betty at No. 10, just to name a few. It may surprise people to see Patricia is # 2 all-time spot on the girl. In addition, there are some interesting trends shown by the data, such as accounting names of 10 boys, nearly 35 million names in this century, while the top 10 girls are only about 15 million Names that show clearly the huge number of names for girls compared with boys names that goes back to the 1900th
Just as they do today, Biblical names make strong on the list. From the boy's hand, seems no less than six biblical names in the all-time top ten on the side of the girl, two names have biblical roots. The gap between boys and biblical names for girls, boys "are becoming increasingly popular, is still true today.
Given the increased volatility over time the names of girls, it is not surprising that some stars of the 20th century, as Linda, who is ranked No. 3 in the century, continues to decline - All The Way To # 416 by 2005th Poor Betty # 10 of the 20 century, the situation is worse - the name is not ranked in the top 1000 from the grating on the list at # 918 in 1996.
What are the names still hot? Surprisingly, the names of five boys "of the dozen top of the 20th century - Michael, Daniel, Christopher, Joseph and William - are still in the twelve days. For girls only Elizabeth (# 12 in 2005) shows that the nature of endurance. For over 100 years, parents were very traditional in picking boys names, but ready to take a chance on something new when it comes to girls' names. What are the top baby names in the 20th century? Here are the top ten for sex:
Boys:
1 James
2 John
3 Robert
4 Michael
5 William
6 David
7 Richard
8 Joseph
9 Charles
10 Thomas
Girls:
1 Mary
2 Patricia
3 Linda
4 Barbara
5 Jennifer
6 Elizabeth
7 Margaret
8 Susan
9 Dorothy
10 Betty
How are the superstars of the 20th century, James and Mary, working today? As usual, the boy's name James is still not far from the summit. It ranked number 17 in 2005. Mary, while not collapse as some of his namesake, is not performing so well. In 2005 she was number 73rd More worrying Mary, it fluctuates downward since last held # 1 spot in 1961. But even if Mary leaves the top 100, it can only be temporary. Consider the name Emily, the maiden name of the hottest over the last decade. 45 years ago, when Marie was # 1, Emily is the # 265th Names like most fashion, the ebb and flow with the tastes of the day.
